5.11.2003 Prabhupada Letters: Vol. I - VIII A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada may have been the most prolific correspondent of any spiritual leader of the Twentieth Century. The total number of letters written between 1947 and 1977 probably exceeds 10,000. Their breadth is equally remarkable - with friends, religious and political leaders, with students and disciples, Srila Prabhupada was as potent and moving a communicator in letters as he was in person. Collectively, Srila Prabhupada’s letters reveal his personal character and thinking like no other source. Now for the first time online is the complete, unedited presentation of all known extant letters from his voluminous epistolarium. A work in progress, we begin with Srila Prabhupada's earliest letters written between 1947-64. We then proceed to the letters and journal writings from 1965-66 at the time of his historic voyage to America. And we then continue to the letters written between 1967-71. We have also added an Anthology Blog which provides a daily selection of letters written on today's date. To establish historical and chronological context, we post all letters on the day they were originally written; June 1, 1967 is posted on June 1, 2005, etc. We present here only recorded extant letters. Undoubtedly many, many more letters were written during this period that have not been recorded. Over 12,000 letters a month are currently being viewed at this site from all over the world. It is our hope that they help bring friends, students and scholars closer to a wealth of primary material seminal to a full understanding and appreciation of His Divine Grace A.C.
